Journey to the lake Ala-Kul
The most famous attraction of Kyrgyzstan, if we consider its water possessions, is Issyk-Kul, a truly beautiful lake. But do not deprive the attention and other water pearls of this country. Today I want to tell you about the so-called “Motley Lake”, which in Kyrgyz means Ala-Kul. This lake is located in the more inaccessible mountainous region of Kyrgyzstan. To him, unlike Issyk-Kul, you will not drive up on a tourist bus or jeep. And to swim in the cleanest waters of Ala-Kul, you will have to work hard and climb on foot to an altitude of 3532 meters.
Ala-Kul or Ala-Kul is a lake in the Terskey-Alatau region, in the Central Tien Shan, Kyrgyzstan. Located in the upper reaches of the Kurgaktor River, the right tributary of the Karakol, at an altitude of 3,532 meters.
Lake of glacial origin. It was formed in a ditch, which was cultivated by a glacier, which, retreating, still occupies the upper part of the valley.
Here it is in all its glory, the same glacier from which the lake originates and which for more than one hundred years has been feeding “Pestroe” with all the new waters.
For me, the mystery of the cleanliness of the lake. Mountain rivers are usually muddy, the melt water from the glacier has always had, frankly, a grayish color from the washed rocks in it, sand, etc. etc., and then there is such a color, such transparency.
The cold waters of Ala-Kul are just icy. From here one important rule.
If you decide to swim, do it right away. Get undressed and run into the water, dive, fall, jump, the main thing is to do everything sharply and quickly. If you first decide to "help the feet", consider the bathing failed.
But how to get here. There are several options, either from below, or along one of the passes, through the rocky ridges surrounding the lake.
The path to the lake from the Karakol valley begins just below the Ayutor River, along the “Dry” gorge. Well-packed path immediately goes into the forest.
It rises at first rather hollow, but gradually gains steepness. It passes through the forest serpentine, and almost lost on the moraine, it goes straight to the river Kurgaktor, which in this place goes under the stones.
Just above the river is the orphanage, which is a small log cabin with cleared tent places around. In the house, by the way, you can spend the night well in case of bad weather or any other circumstances.
From the shelter a well-trodden path goes right along the river. But after the narrowing of the gorge you need to take the left to the rocks.
Just above the trail leads to a steep moraine with a licked rocky area. It is from there falls waterfall. The height of the water fall is about 50 m.
It is very pleasant to relax after a steep climb and admire the beautiful view of the waterfall flowing directly from the lake.
To bypass the waterfall is to the left. The trail is clearly visible on the moraine and is marked with turiks.
Above, lamb foreheads, they cost on a loose as close as possible to the rocks.
And here we are at the goal.
At first glance, the lake is striking in its beauty. And all the flour lifting rise far in the past. I just want to sit and contemplate this perfection of color and lines among the majestic mountains of the Tien Shan.
Here we set up camp on the coastal flat plates so that tomorrow, with new forces, we would climb the peak for 30 years to the Komsomol, at 4090 m.
The route to the mountain starts from the lake itself, but first you need to cross the place where the water flows.
The place seems to be not wide, but it’s better to use insurance here, since once you accidentally hit the raging waters overlooking the waterfall, you don’t have to wait for help.
