Archangels, Angels, Beginnings, Thrones, Dominions, and Seraphi six-krilatii, and many Cherubimi Divinity, the wisdom of the organ, the Power and Divine Authority, Christ pray to give our souls peace and great mercy.
(From the service of November 8/21)
The Word of God says: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Gen. 1.1). Under the name of heaven it is natural to understand spirits (Colossians 1, 16), that is, the spiritual invisible world, or angels. The Holy Scripture, beginning with the Book of Genesis to the Apocalypse, presents to us angels as acting, obeying the commands of the Most High and protecting the pious people with their veil. The Holy Scripture narrates the power and will power of the angels, and their ardent love for the Creator testifies to the purity and holiness of those who stand at the throne of God.
Angels are the essence of the heavenly host, according to the Gospel: “And suddenly a multitude of heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and crying: Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth, good will among men” (Luke 2, 13-14).
God sends angels to declare His decrees. Therefore, they are called angels, that is, heralds.
Countless angels, the human mind is lost in their countless assembly.
But here the order reigning among the heavenly spirits is amazing. Order, harmony is the beauty of perfection, the wisdom and truth of God. In the Kingdom of Heaven there is no monotony and stagnation - there is diversity, movement, activity, aspiration, a great many-complex activity, unknown to us here on earth.
Saint Dionysius the Areopagite, a disciple of the holy Apostle Paul, who was enraptured to the third heaven (2 Cor. 12, 2), there saw the difference between the ranks of holy angels, and explained this to Dionysius, as his disciple, divides the angels into nine ranks, and nine ranks of the angels divides On three hierarchies, in each on three ranks - the highest, average and lowest.
The first, the highest, and to the Most Holy Trinity, the nearest hierarchy isseraphim, cherubsandthrones; second, middle -authorities,domination,strength. The third includebeginnings, archangels, angels(Dionysius Areopagite "On the Heavenly Hierarchy").
The God-loving six-winged seraphim are coming the closest to the Creator and to the Creator, as the prophet Isaiah saw: “Around him stoodseraphim; each of them has six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his legs, and with two he flew. And they cried to each other and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts! The whole earth is full of His glory! ”(Is. 6, 2–3).
The seraphim are fire-like, as immediately coming to Tom, of whom it is written: "The sight of the glory of the Lord on the top of the mountain was before the eyes of the sons of Israel, as a consuming fire" (Ex. 24,17), the throne of His fire of fire (Dan. 1,9) because our God is a consuming fire (Heb. 12, 29).
Seraphim flaming with love for God and excite others for the same love, as their very name shows, for “seraphim” translated from Hebrew means: flaming.
After the seraphim before the omniscient God, who lives in the light of unapproachable, many of them in the ineffable lightness are comingcherubsthey are always shining with the light of the knowledge of God, the keeping of the mysteries and depths of the wisdom of God, themselves enlightened and others enlightening. The word "cherub" in translation from the Hebrew language means "a lot of understanding or the outpouring of wisdom," because through cherubs wisdom is sent down to others and enlightenment is given for the knowledge of God and knowledge of God.
Then God-bearing are coming before the Most Highs.thrones, for on them, as on rational thrones (as St. Maxim the Confessor writes), God rests. Rest on them in an incomprehensible way, God performs His righteous judgment, according to what David said: “For You have brought my judgment and my judgment; You are seated on the throne, Judge is righteous ”(Ps. 9, 5). Therefore, through them, the justice of God is predominantly manifested, helping earthly judges, kings, sovereigns and rulers to perform a righteous judgment.
In the middle hierarchy, as already mentioned above, there are also three orders of holy angels:domination, strengthandauthorities.
Dominationgive strength to prudent possession and wise control of earthly powers set forth from God, teach them to control the senses, to humble obscene desires and passions, to enslave the flesh to the spirit, to dominate their will and to be above all temptation.
Forcesfilled with a divine fortress and immediately fulfill the will of the Most High. They do great miracles and bestow the grace of miracles to the servants of God, so that they can work miracles, heal diseases, foreshadow the future, help hard-working and burdened people in carrying their obedience, which explains their strength, that is, they are weak. . Forces strengthen each person in the patience of sorrows and misfortunes.
Authoritieshave power over the devil, tame the power of demons, repel temptations induced on people, do not allow demons to harm anyone to the extent that they desire, claim good devotees in spiritual feats and labors, protecting them so that they will not lose their spiritual kingdom. Those who struggle with passions and lusts help to drive away evil thoughts, slanders of the enemy and defeat the devil.
In the lower hierarchy there are also three ranks:beginnings, archangelsandangels.
Beginningsthey are commanding the lower angels, directing them to the fulfillment of divine commands. They are also entrusted with the administration of the universe and the preservation of all kingdoms and princedoms, lands and all peoples, tribes and languages.
The archangelsgreat preachers are called, preaching the great and the glorious. The archangels discover the prophecies, the knowledge and understanding of the will of God, strengthen the holy faith in people, enlightening their minds with the light of the knowledge of the holy Gospel and reveal the sacraments of godly faith.
Angelsin the heavenly hierarchy below all ranks and closest to people. They proclaim the lesser mysteries and intentions of God and instruct people to live virtuously and righteously for God, protecting us from all evil.Angels are assigned to safeguard every Christian: they support us from falling, they raise the fallen, and they never leave us, even if we have sinned, for they are always ready to help us, if only we wish.
The words of the Savior present to us a convincing testimony of guardian angels: “Look, do not despise any of these little ones; for I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven ”(Matt. 18, 10).
And not only every person has his own guardian angel, but also every family, every pious society, every state.
The Prophet Moses said to the people of Israel: “When the Most High gave destinies to the nations and settled the sons of men, then he set the limits of the nations according to the number of the angels of God” (Deut. 32, 8).
But all the higher heavenly orders are called by a common name - angels. Although in their position and in the grace given by God they have different names - seraphim, cherubim, thrones, domination, power, authority, beginnings, archangels, angels - but they are generally called angels, because the word “angel” is not a name but the ministries, according to the written: “Are not all of them the service spirits sent to the ministry ...” (Heb.1,14).
So, the angels, fulfilling the will of God, as official spirits, take an active, lively part in the fate of mankind. Thus, the angels declare the will of God to people, observe states (Deut. 32, 8), keep human societies, regions, cities, monasteries, churches, and govern various parts of the earth (Apoc. 7.1; 14.18), have an influence on private affairs of people (Gen. 32,1-2), encourage, preserve (Dan. 6, 22), are taken out of prison (Acts 5,19-20; 12,7-9), are present at the end of the soul from the body, they accompany her march in air ordeals, offer our prayers to God and intercede for us (Apoc. 8, 3). Angels come to the service of men (Heb. 1, 14), teach the truth, virtues, enlighten the mind, strengthen the will and protect in life from harm (Gen. 16, 7-12). On the phenomena of good angels can be read in the Holy Scriptures - Gen. 18.2–22; 28.12; Nav 5, 13-14; Lk 1, 11, 26, 28; Matt. 2, 13; Acts 5, 19; 10, 31; 12, 7.
Above all nine heavenly orders of angels, the ringleader and leader is set by God Archangel Michael, as a faithful servant of God.
Archangel Michael during the disastrous inflow of Satan’s pride, his retreat from God and falling into the abyss, having collected all the angelic ranks and troops, vellisly exclaimed: “We will understand our Creator and will not think that it is disgusting to God! We understand that they sufferedwho were created with us and hitherto with us were partakers of the divine light! Let us see how they, for the sake of pride, suddenly fell from the light into darkness and plunged down into the abyss from on high! We understand how the rising morning of the Day of Logger slept from the sky and was crushed on the ground "(Gregory Dvoeslov." Interpretation on the Four Gospels ").
Speaking so to the whole cathedral of angels, he stood in front, began with the seraphim and cherubim and with all the heavenly orders glorify the most holy, coexistent and inseparable Trinity, the One God, according to singing the solemn song: "Holy, Holy, Holy Lord of Hosts, fulfill heaven and Thy land of glory! ”
Angels are usually depicted with two wings to signify the rapidity with which they seek to fulfill the commandments of God in different parts of the universe.
